Coverley - Production Engineer} 25 HP. SYNCHRO MESH GEARBOX. ------------------------------------------- Herewith is N.sch.3396. shewing the following experi- ments, the object of which is to improve the silence of the helical trains: (1) Wider helical gears. (2) Finer pitch, namely, from 14 to 16 diametral pitch. (3) Slightly increase angle of helix. We understand we cannot grind an angle exceeding 35° therefore the suggestion to use 45° is probably not practi- cal {Mr Calvert} , but in any case it is only to be used as a last resort. 34° 35 mins, which is the nearest to 35° that we can get should however be tried. It will be noticed that the 3rd. speed driven wheel has had its bearing appreciably increased in length. DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
