Attention of Mr. Richards.

20th September, 1938.

Messrs. High Duty Alloys Ltd.,
Trading Estate,
Slough,
Bucks.

Dear Mr. Richards,

We thank you very much for calling at our Works this afternoon in connection with AC.9 bearing material, and wish to confirm the point you mention in that you would get in touch with Rolls Royce tomorrow morning, regarding the specification of the material which we have at our Works here, analysis of which has proved that the Copper content was low, that is outside the specification on the material on the six samples tested.

We note also that although the average of the magnesium content appears to be .95%, the two bushes which you also checked up, which were from the same material as these six samples, appear to have a loss in magnesium, due to remelting to cast the bushes, so that one shows a magnesium content of .85% and the other .77%. It is quite obvious that there is .1% loss on the one melt, which it appears is recurring every time there is a re-melt, and we are therefore doing nothing further until we hear from you tomorrow morning by 12 o'clock as you promised, to let us know whether Rolls will agree to this material being passed out to this specification, and we further give below the figures of our analysis of magnesium contents :-

Ref.No. Casting No. Mag. Content%
A.23 11 .95%
A.24 10 .87%
A.25 13 .905%
