Dear Sirs, With reference to your visit to our works yesterday, we give herewith particulars of our method of stove enamelling. The enamel and primer are obtained from Thorley and Knight (Birmingham). Parts to be enamelled are given three coats as follows :- 1st Coat - 75% Priming. 25% Enamel. 2nd Coat - 50% Priming. 50% Enamel. 3rd Coat - 25% Priming. 75% Enamel. In each case the enamel and primer are mixed in the proportions given above and sprayed on to the article to be enamelled. After each coat the article is put in a steam heated oven for 2 hours and maintained at a temperature of between 240ºF. {Mr Friese} and 280ºF. {Mr Friese} (280ºF. {Mr Friese} is the maximum heat which it is possible to attain in our oven). We understand that after the first coat, the baking time can be extended to 3 hours with beneficial results. The suction chambers on our own semi-expanding carburetters are, we now find out, enamelled before the final grinding operation. We hope this information may be of some use to you in the matter of producing a better black finish to the Bentley carburetters. Yours faithfully, | ||
