SHOCK DAMPERS. SINGLE VALVE TYPE. Replying to RL/M13.7.32. We have now tried out on the rig, the damping scheme suggested in this memo, together with the taper valve shewn on N. s ch. 3497. The results so far indicate that this is a very promising method of silencing the valve. In our preliminary arrangement we have got the L.P. load considerably greater than the H.P. load, but we are modifying this. We have run up to a L.P. load of 200 lbs. on the ball pin without any noise, nor is there any sign of the wave in the indicator diagram, which usually shews that the valve is fluttering. We are now finding whether the taper valve seat or the mask is the most important feature in the prevention of noise, and shall get some road tests. Ha/Rn. {Mr Robinson} | ||
