Dictated 14.9.36. re FLY WHEEL GEAR RINGS. in (Handwritten) With reference to your enquiry concerning the above, our experience has been that the 20/25 HP. starter gear ring has not stood up very well and we have had to turn down a good many fly wheels and shrink on new rings. Our records show that something like 100 gear rings have had to be replaced annually. The position on the Phantom II with the sequence starter has been a bit better but this design does not eliminate damaged gear rings. We are having to replace approximately 50 gear rings annually on this type of car. Allowing for the fact that there are very many more 20 HP. and 20/25 HP. cars in service, the difference in these figures is not very great. We know, however, that many of the early Phantom II cars which have suffered damage to the gear rings had the sequence starter improperly adjusted. The Phantom II gear ring is, of course, easy to replace and we should welcome a similar design on the 25/30 HP. HA/HR./ | ||
