Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Mr. Robotham, Thanks for your letters of the 29th and 30th ult. and I am glad to hear of the revival. I am putting in hand two of what we term our 1 1/2" carburetters, which have 1 1/2" pistons and 1 3/8" throttle bores. The 1 1/2" type which you have at present are 1 1/2" piston and throttle bore but our general standard is for the throttle bore to be 1/8" smaller than the piston. I propose supplying these with damped pistons, and I enclose Blue Print giving dimensions of the flanges. As regards the automatic jet control, it will definitely be necessary for you to let us have the normal running bonnet temperature. Regarding the Daimler air silencer, this is made by the Burgess Silencer people and seems to be pretty efficient. I cannot supply you with a bend for the carburetters as this is generally speaking supplied by the manufacturers. I am also sending you a drawing of a proposed bend which should be satisfactory. You will notice this bend has a hole slot cut in the bottom, which enables you to put various sizes and shapes of baffles in to test. Your remarks regarding the 20 h.p. Alvis are very interesting. Yours sincerely, T C Skinner | ||
