'SS {S. Smith} ' BRAKING. We have condemned Tenoid brake lining. We have also condemned the original type of 'Halo' servo lining. We should like the following modifications made to the cars as soon as possible. Our programme is to gradually supercede all the Tenoid with Ferodo bonded asbestos, or 'Ferobestos' as the cars come into the Shop for modification. We do not think this alteration will affect the efficiency of the brakes much. We want to alter the efficiency by cams and improved supports. 1. Getting 19-EX and 20-EX fitted with the rear brake countershaft supports. <strikethrough>21-EX servo to be lined with woven cotton 'A' discs.</strikethrough> 2. Getting the servos lined with woven cotton discs or Ferodo. 3. If they are then too efficient, trying:- At present only G.74256 in Stores. G.74743 will be coming in almost immediately. (a) Lubrication of the woven cotton discs. (b) 45º cams with the Ferodo and dry cotton discs. <strikethrough>We are prevented from making any useful tests until we get all the cars fitted with the supports for the rear brake countershaft. Could you please push these.</strikethrough> On 20-EX we should like to try 45º cams at once to see if it prevents the present grabbing. We shall not get efficient braking on any car until we have the supports on the rear equaliser shaft. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
