| SECRET. To BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Copy to- Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} HHC. RPS. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Les. Wraith II Rear Road Springs. As originally instructed the front end of the Wraith II rear road spring is equipped with rubber bushes. The Expl. Dept. believe that a plain bearing at this point can be used, and in order that they may try this on the existing Wraith cars we have shown them on LeC.5521 how a plain bearing can be fitted to a spring having a large diameter rolled eye to suit the rubber bushes. It is not intended to repeat Phantom II history by going into production with this, and a scheme for a small eye and lubricated bearing will follow immediately. On LeC.5521 we used the existing spring bracket and existing road spring. The pin is large and heavy but for test purposes this does not matter. We have not repeated the Phantom II design of a small pin and a thick bush because of the difficulties experienced with the latter. EV. {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Att:LeC.5521. | ||
