Aero H.T. Ignition Cable for Merlin(Aero Engine) F Engines.

The correct specification of the ignition cable for the first production Merlin(Aero Engine) F engines is as follows:-

(a) Conductor.
23/.0076 stainless steel wires.

(b) Dielectric
has vulcanised rubber .068" radial thickness.

(c) Ozone resisting covering.
"Thiokol" sheathed .030" radial thickness.

(d) Final covering for ease of handling.
Black cellulose varnished overall (about twenty applications) and polished.

This is the type of cable used on the type test Merlin(Aero Engine) F.11. and should be obtained from the British Insulated & Helsby Cables Ltd.,

We should like to point out that we have made one slight amendment in the specification as compared with the actual cable used on the type test. On this engine the conductor consisted of 19/.012" stainless steel wire and we found this almost impossible to handle successfully when making up the end fittings, hence the reversion to 23/.0076" which is of course more flexible and easier to handle.
