| BJ4/ALV1024 - Cont'd. {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} -2- endeavours to overcome the least noise in our chassis. If any part of the chassis is found to produce noise, it is at once doomed, and no trouble or expense is saved until we have overcome that noise. I fear that the same will have to be done in regard to bodies, if it is hoped that the present type of bodies which does boom shall become silent in future. We are extremely glad to hear of your success with leather extensions and roofs. You may remember that when I returned from America about three years ago I strongly recommended leather roofs to reduce booming but at that time they were not considered to be successful. We are asking our Coachbuilding Sub-Committee to give this matter immediate and careful attention, in order that we may, if found desirable, give instructions to our salesmen to advise customers in future to have them leather roofs and extensions fitted on those designs of your bodies which in the past have proved to be boomers. Your letter does not make quite clear in what respect Mr. Spinney finds these leather extensions to be an improvement and satisfactory, but I will obtain this information from him as soon as possible. I should greatly like to try one of these cars which you have found successful, but we know from experience, unfortunately, that we cannot always depend on one swallow(Experimental 3rd LINE MODEL 12/15hp 2-3 seater) making a summer, and that what is successful on one car may not be successful on all. Please do not think I am too sceptical on this point, as I want to encourage any possible way of overcoming the trouble, and I sincerely hope that leather may be the cure. As you know, we are still experimenting with under frames between the chassis and the body, which we hope may make an improvement. You may rely on your suggestions receiving our very best and careful consideration, and we want to work in co-operation with you in every way possible to produce really silent and satisfactory complete Rolls-Royce cars fitted with your bodies. Yours faithfully, (Sgd) B Johnson H. {Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Y. Nutt, Esq., 66, South Audley Street, W.1. | ||
