| x79451 G.W.Hancock, Esq. Hotel de France, Chateauroux(French test region), Indre, France. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rn. {Mr Robinson} 10/KW.12.4.34. Thank you for your various notes. Your engine certainly seems to be disintegrating in rather an alarming manner. I have arranged for the tyres to be sent out, and hope they will get there before you complete the 10,000 miles test. With regard to the tappets, we think it is now generally agreed that we have departed too much from the General Motors scheme. I have brought all the detailed drawings of their tappet back, and E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} is now going over the job. One point I should like you to observe is whether oil leaks out of the gearbox into the clutch pit. They are in a bad way in America with their clutch couplings which they say only last about 7,000 miles, due to oil leaking out of the gearbox and getting all over them. They say that they can empty the gearbox if they run the car with the back wheels jacked up, and that it does not take them very long. Atkins, who is O.C. Service there says he has cured the job by improving the venting of the gearbox. Frankly, I could not understand this state of affairs at all, unless it is that in some way the Left-Hand Phantoms are different from the Right-Hand Phantoms. Perhaps you could make sure on your car that such a condition does not exist. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rn. {Mr Robinson} | ||
