| x794/ G.W.H See me Om To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. Hotel de France, Chateauroux(French test region), FRANCE. 23.4.34. 28-EX. We have finished our 10,000 miles today. We have been taking various temperatures which we enclose, of the rear of the bonnet etc. We made the two front flaps on the exhaust side to open forward to act as scoops, with an endeavour to ventilate the inside of the bonnet. We also tried to reduce the temp. by keeping the back of the bonnet, on the exhaust side, opened out leaving a gap of approx. 1.5" to allow heat to escape. From the results of the tests we gain nothing. The flaps do not scoop the air in, and with the radiator shutters working normally, there is not sufficient volume of air going through that the aperture of the dash cannot deal with. The only way of getting air inside the bonnet is through the radiator, and we would strongly recommend that two slots be left each side of the matrix independent of the shutters. G.W.Hancock.
