| To B. from BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to EH. c. to Mr. Shelton. A4190 26th. February, 1919. BY1/T26219. RE CHASSIS - PISTONS & GUDGEON PIN. There is a great doubt in my mind that Mr. Royce will stick to the design of gudgeon pin fixing which we are actually experimenting with at the moment. It does not seem to me that an unlocked gudgeon pin in an aluminium piston is quite like our usual practice. I agree that we have been able to use pins .0005 slack as regards fitting in the piston but these same pins have always been well locked, exceptionally so, and therefore no chance of holes wearing. This is not the case however with the new scheme in hand. I do not think one can rely on friction between connecting rod and pin being less than between pin and piston boss. If there is any alteration to be made in pin design we should have this early as the matter is now most urgent. BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
