To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re 10,000 Miles Test. Sg {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} 13/E9.7.31

The point mentioned in regard to springing is of great interest, i.e. that with the low rating springs on Continental roads high speed driving with any other than an experienced driver is positively unsafe etc. etc.

I should be glad if you would ascertain from Hancock (unless you already know) the speed at which the conditions referred to make themselves present.

This matter is of importance from the point of view of our fitting springs of this type to customers' cars because we always have to remember that any owner may take his car to France.

You mention on the report that the average speed is higher than usual but I should really like to know whether the unsatisfactory points referred to come into existence at 50, 60, 70 or 80 miles per hour.

I should also be interested to know what you propose doing about the springing, i.e. whether having received this report you propose now to fit the standard type. It does not seem much use continuing it with the low rating springs.

In connection with the engine we should like to know whether the general roughness which appears after 70 m.p.h. is greater than with the standard P.II. This is of importance because one of the features being tested is the diamond engine mounting.
