Mr Johnson,

Re ground clearance.

With reference to the attached sheet, re the above subject, we have been thoroughly into the matter and find that the figures which we have advised previously have not been in accordance with the chassis turned out. The reason for this is that the figures are taken from a drawing and that the chassis do not agree with our drawing.

A variation occurs at two or three points. One point is, the tyre may be blown up to varying pressures; another point is, the projection of the guard under the flywheel. We find this projects about ⅜" to ½" more than shown on the drawing. The other factor is the reduction in the camber in the springs. I find Mr Platford has been turning out cars in which the springs are from ⅜" to ⅝" lower than shown on our drawing. He has done this in order to obtain more comfortable riding and says it is necessary, but at the same time it reduces our clearance. In these three items it is possible to lose from 1" to 1½" of the clearance provided on the drawing.
