Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} Mx. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} 23/N.9.11.38. Speedometer Drive - Wraith. H.H. The modification to ensure positive lubrication of bearings by drilling a .0468 diameter hole in the root of spiral gear, and conveying oil along the hollow shaft, via a .0468 hole in the bearing portion of the shaft is satisfactory. A modified drive piece in conjunction with a new bearing has been run over a thousand miles on 24.G.VI. The bearing is effectively lubricated, and there is no sign of oil working through into the speedometer cable. With this modification the duct and hole in the bearing can be deleted.
