Thank you for your two memos HS {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /RM. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 13/KW/14/4/34 & HS {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 12/KW.17.4.34.
Referring to the trouble we have experienced with the petrol system on the above car.
Originally the pumps - filler, tap & main pipe line were fitted under the bonnet on the exhaust side & were directly affected by the hot air stream from the manifold & down pipe.
They were fitted so, because other than fitting them somewhere in the frame, that was the only available spot.
It is absolutely hopeless to have the petrol system so exposed to the exhaust as the petrol not only boils in the filler, tap & intermediate pipes, but also in the main pipe lines & whilst we definitely know that these electric pumps clear themselves of vapour easier than do the A.C. pumps, I cannot see how any pump can suck through petrol if the reservoir from which it sucks is continually
