The clamping bolts at the top of the yoke piece shown on N.Sch.4544 foul the transverse boss between the limbs and the upper triangle on full bump. We show how we propose to overcome this difficulty on N.Sch.5034 herewith, and to use a nut and spring washer in the place of a castle nut. At the same time we have placed the clamping bolts more nearly vertical by reducing the angle to the vertical by 5°, so leaving more room for the nuts. We anticipate that we can do this without modifying the forging as we notice that these bolt bosses have to be profiled. In any case the forging can be increased in size slightly without scrapping the dies. 5) Oil Pipe on Yoke Piece. It is considered that the clip at the lower end of the yoke piece for steadying the centralised chassis lubrication pipes is redundant. Would you kindly arrange for it to be deleted. It is necessary to maintain the clip on the upper pipe as this clip takes the reaction from the coil pipe. 6) Lower Yoke Piece Bearing. It has been said that the clearance between the housing for the lower yoke piece bearing and triangle levers is inadequate, and also that the nuts at the outer ends of this bearing restrict the lock. We have already sent you N.Sch.5021 in which the former has been increased by reducing the machining allowance on the bosses on the triangle levers from 7½ thou. to 5 thou. whilst the latter has been dealt with by placing the head of the through going bolt to the front.
