Bentley Clutch.

We had a discussion last week with the technical representatives of Borg & Beck, to whom we showed our adaptation of their clutch to EX.15816. They immediately said that from their experience our arrangement would not give a smooth take up. We agree from results with this statement.

They told us that after extensive research in America they have found the two most essential features are (1) that the splines should be underneath the driven member and not offset, and (2) that the splines should be few in number (about 10) and square sided, accurately broached. They also prefer a journal type throw-out bearing in place of our thrust bearing.

We think therefore that these points should be included in the design of new rear main bearing.

Attached herewith are drawings of the Borg and Beck 10" and 11" clutches, and also of EX.15816.
