PEREGRINE(Experimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine) IGNITION ADVANCE

We have carried out some tests to ascertain the correct ignition advance for Peregrine(Experimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine) at various speeds. We attach a curve No. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Pr.21 which shows that the total ignition advance required is only some 12° between 1,000 and 5,000 R.P.M. Tests on 'China(Experimental Engine)' with the J.I cylinder head, showed somewhat similar results, the total ignition advance required being slightly less than 20°. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Wst. has suggested that since so little ignition advance is required by these engines it might be possible to simplify the governor providing the automatic range.
