PEREGRINE(Experimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine) CARBURETTER INDUCTION PIPES

We have now carried out the tests suggested in E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /HP.22.2.33 with the exception of the weir pipe and the 1.5" diameter uptake. The only test which has produced any improvement in the distribution is with the shuttle shaped baffle, but even with this in action we cannot get a reasonably good specific consumption,

We shall have the small diameter uptake on test by Monday.

We have done sufficient work on Peregrine(Experimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine) to say that the distribution is going to be very very difficult with the single carburetter. With two S.U's, however, as arranged on the Bensport(Codename for 3 1/2-litre Bentley), we think we can get quite good carburation, and we are arranging a pipe so that we shall have a model to aim at for the R.R. carburetter.

We are making various modifications to the two pipes you have already given us with a view to improving their performance. One point we shall have to establish with these pipes is that they are exceedingly critical to the quantity of heat at low speeds. The amount of heat that can be passed to the hot spot at low speeds is barely adequate at high speeds and can be far in excess of what is required.
