| HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C/o R. {Sir Henry Royce} Le Canadel(Henry Royce's French residence). from EP. {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} X3730 EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 1/LG22.3.22. EXPERIMENTAL CARS. X4086 GOSHAWK(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine)) II. X4219 X3730 Attached please find copy of memo. received from CJ. ref. CJ11/E21.3.22 which rather gives a different programme to that originally arranged for the running of these cars. The second car he refers to is the first of the 10,000 miles trials' cars' for Hy. {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} 5-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II - the third car 6-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II and the fourth car 7-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II. The limousine car, I take it, refers to 3-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II. The first car is the one you now have at Le Canadel(Henry Royce's French residence) i.e. 4-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II. We are carrying on finishing off the chassis 6-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II and will fix the body as originally arranged, as explained in my memo. EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 3/LG21.3.22., but I feel that CJ. is under the impression that 4-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II is not modernized and I cannot see any object in sending R. {Sir Henry Royce} 6-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II which is no more modernized that 4-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II. Unless, therefore, you have any reason otherwise, we feel that 4-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II should be left for Mr. Royce. I should be very glad to hear from you in regard to this matter as there is no action as present to tackle CJ. on this matter as it will not alter our present routine of work. As regards 3-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-II (limousine), Hallam reports that the position of the front seats, pedals, steering and body particulars generally, were very carefully inspected by Messrs. SP {Mr Spinney} , Ev {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} and other Sales Dept. representatives and they pointed out that it was not yet satisfactory but Hallam says that a full contd:- | ||
