REAR ROLL ROD. On the scheme for the rear roll rod and shock absorber connecting link with lubricated ball ends LeC.5607, we regret that there is a foul between the lower ball end and the jack. To overcome the difficulty we propose to do two things:- (1) To move out the arm carrying the lower ball end by .2, by shortening the shaft which protrudes from the spring pad. As great difficulty is experienced with broached serrations on this arm, we have agreed to try in their place pinning with either welding or brazing. Of the two we think the latter is the better job. (2) To clear the foul between the stone shield on the jack and the lower ball end of the connecting link, we propose to cut off the ears for the bolts of the stone shields on the jack bracket and to use an attachment with studs, at the same time reducing the size of the stone shield on the jack. The jacks as drawn are those for Phantom III, and it is very improbable that they will be used on the Wraith eventually. It is intended that a cheaper and smaller jack be fitted when, of course, the clearance will be increased still further. We have handed a print of LeC.5721 showing the above modifications to HPS {Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} , who has very kindly offered to modify the pieces which he is producing for the experimental car.
