| Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X 370 BY.9/G.2.10.33. 20/25 HP. SERVO. Referring to Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Gry. {Shadwell Grylls} 10/KT.27.9.33. although as Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Gry. {Shadwell Grylls} correctly points out I signed the standardisation sheet, further reflection made me realise that there was a danger in what was proposed, and I therefore went and discussed the matter with Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} , and Mr. Hancock. My view is that to delete all means of lubrication except when the shaft is erected in the first place, is likely to be a dangerous scheme. It is agreed the Experimental Dept. have run 10,000 miles on more than one occasion, with no lubrication except the shafts being greased well when put up. These runs, however, are all completed within/six weeks, and it is doubtful whether when a car is to go for possibly two years it is safe to completely delete the lubrication. We have proposed a further scheme by which only a very tiny amount of oil can reach the bearings, no matter how many times the Bijur pedal is depressed, and I think that either this improved scheme or the original hand oiling scheme ought to be used rather than completely delete all means of lubrication.
