FRONT WHEEL BRAKES. x8420 TORSIONAL PULL OFF SPRINGS. From tests we have carried out we find that a load from 9 to 9 1/4 lbs. at the extremity of lever G.74863 is necessary if the springs are to function satisfactorily. We realise with springs G.74280 this means a stress of somewhere about 100,000 lbs., but we have actually run a car 10,000 miles upon which the load at the end of this lever has been over 9 lbs. without any trouble. If any alteration is contemplated to these springs, as with the new axle with altered angle of brake shafts, we consider it would be desirable for the spring to be designed so that it could give 10 to 11 lbs. pull off on the lever indicated i.e. 32 to 35 ins.lbs. torque.
