| To By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Les. c. Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. Roy {Mr H. Royce - Buyer} /Ms. c. HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 1023 Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Les.5/MH. {M. Huckerby} 31.1.38. £1 14s 6 WILMOT BREEDEN STABILISING BUMPERS FOR BENTLEY II. This is to confirm that we have arranged with Mr.Breeden that 'M' series Bentley will be fitted with a front stabiliser FB.3007 costing £3. 5s. 0d. instead of the present figure of £4. 19s. 6d. The economy has been made without affecting the quality of the production by using:- (a) Silico manganese spring plates instead of chrome vanadium. (b) End caps up set from securing studs, as used on latest Breeden stabilisers. (c) Lead weights rubber loaded to prevent rattles. (d) Standard silent-bloc bush mounting instead of our special unit. The only economy feature that could be criticised is the use of the standard silent-bloc bush causing more load on the bumper fixing stud. However, Breedens state that this is one place where they do not have failures, and the stud in question is produced by us in nickel steel. But as Breedens are already committed to orders for 100 more of the expensive silent-bloc bushes we have agreed to pay £3. 12s. 0d. for the first 100 bumpers, after which the ordinary silent-bloc will then be introduced. This arrangement reduces Breeden's scrap and enables us to complete our testing on O.B.IV well before the chassis fitted with the standard silent-bloc leaves the works.
