Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /RJH. B.V. 412 Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /GB.1/ST.30.6.41. 10" CLUTCH DISCS. The clutch disc which caused transmission rattle on B.18.AW has been removed and tested (see attached graph). The rattle on this car was from 22 to 28 m.p.h. on top gear. The peak was at 25 m.p.h. and was described as bad by Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Wym. {G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} A new disc (No.3 in Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /GB.9/ST.30.12.40) with a 20 lb/ft. friction loop was fitted and this cured the rattle. Our knowledge to date on the relationship between disc friction and transmission rattle on B.V.s with fully floating axles and over-drive boxes is as follows. C A R. {Sir Henry Royce} FRICTION LOOP DEPTH. RATTLE. ------------------------------------------------------------- Lp. {Mr Lappin} 's B.22.AW 10 lb/ft. Bad. ------------------------------------------------------------- Demonstration car B.20.AW 17-27 None. ------------------------------------------------------------- Wilmot-Breeden's car 6-10 Bad. B.18.AW ------------------------------------------------------------- Wilmot-Breeden's car 20 None. B.18.AW On 29.5.41 we wrote to Messrs. Borh & Beck asking for 6 spacers .007" to .008" thick, in pin steel. The object of these spacers was to get a final check on our requirements in disc friction, in terms of spacer thickness and stop pin length. No reply to this note has been received. We will write to Messrs. BORG & BECK again. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /GB. | ||
