Please receive herewith two blue- prints of the following :- RE.2440 Camshaft 1 Off per set. RE.2441 " 1 " " " RE.2474 " 1 " " " RE.2475 " 1 " " " These pieces are similar to those issued under Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /HH.8/SW.9.5.41., (RE.2422/3) except for the material. Originally we detailed a camshaft (RE.1683) in 'Monikrom" and having 113°15' between the cams. Then, in accordance with PL.534/5, we detailed another pair of shafts (RE.2422/3) having 111½° and 114½° between the cams respectively. These were to be produced in S/ZN2072 - BSS S.67 in accordance with memo - Ev {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} /JD. {J. Draper - Frames} 1/SW.22.4.41 in which Ev {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} /JD. {J. Draper - Frames} informs us that Jnr. {Charles L. Jenner} had received information from HPS {Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} /Buckler to the effect that the Monikrom manufacturers had declined the order. This being the case, the first camshafts were to be ordered in our usual Nickel Steel material. Then Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} pointed out that TB/KNG. could produce the Camshafts in an equivalent material to 'Monikrom'. Thus, in accordance with memo TB/KNG.1/JT.20.5.41., we have now produced the above drawings showing the shafts with 111½° and 114½° between the cams and in this equivalent material. The first pair RE.2440/1 are to be chill-hardened and the second pair RE.2474/5 flame-hardened. (continued) | ||
