ROAD SPRINGS.

LES I should take a keen interest in this if I were you. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer}

Referring to the sample piece of unground spring plate, after checking the decarburised depth of a small sample I would like you to try :-

(a). Quenching from cyanide bath.
(b). Effect of varying time in the bath.

on the surface of the plate in regard to the scale, and secondly as to whether the cyanide will replace the carbon to the full depth of the decarburizing penetration as a surface effect not as a streamer passing into the body of the steel.

This is an important aspect, it might obviate grinding to a marked extent.
