heat to the oil from the hottest part of the engine.
We are going to cut down the supply to the rocker shaft to the minimum needed, having cut out the auto mechanism.
The results will show whether our suspicion is correct or not.

VALVE SPRINGS.

We note your remarks re. eliminating surging of the springs. Mr.Olley years ago gave us valve springs that did not surge. The convolutions were not equally spaced, the spring being evolved from numerous tests. The spring cup no doubt will prevent it. Our own experience is that if the springs are fitted slack on the spigots, surging is worse, and a small amount of damping on the side should stop it altogether.

PETROL.

We are using Standard. T.E.L. is not to my knowledge allowed over here. Standard is what we have used for all cars except when we have gone over to Esso.
The condition of the valve seats however, were identical to those at Derby when using T.E.L. only that that there were no signs of tracking.

We are holding the car up today to attend to the following:-

(1) making tappets standard.

(2) Removing petrol filter from under the bonnet and fitting under the scuttle, as we cannot run after slowing down.

(3) The rear number plate lamp holder has given a lot of trouble, the worst piece of work I've ever seen fitted to a car, (Park Wards job).

(4) Once more, trouble with wires falling off inside the headlamps. Someone, some day, will appreciate practical experience, and do what we ask. {O.K.

(5) Silent fan?
