Whilst at Dennis Bros., on Monday I saw the bearings which have now run 310 hours on full load and which appear to be very satisfactory indeed. Mr. Matthews, Rolls Royce, was there and in discussing the point which he raised in a 'phone conversation regarding bearings for Leyland, I gathered that they had already arranged to do the job and had put it in hand before they 'phoned us. He further informed me that they were not making an elaborate die but were casting in tube form and cutting the bearings from a long tube. Mr. Milne, after Mr. Matthews had left, discussed several other points and in the course of conversation mentioned that he was given to understand that Glacier Metal Co. were undertaking the manufacture of an Aluminium bearing under licence from Junkers of Dessau, Germany, and although he was not fully aware of the specification it is believed to be one of these shown on the I.A.E. Research list as attached. Mr. Milne has not so far had any of their bearings, but they have approached him regarding trials and in a jocular manner he suggested that this was all to the good as it would mean healthy competition. | ||
