| -2- He/Wst.1/WA. {Mr Wallis} 24.2.33. Cont'd. {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} We attach curves showing the magnetic pull on the armature in lbs against armature movement in inches. This shows, for the same expenditure of electrical energy, that the Peregrine(Experimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine) motor gives more engaging force than the Bosch the characteristic of engagement being approximately the same. It is interesting to note that the Peregrine(Experimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine) motor in its latest form actually gives a higher maximum B.H.P. than the big Phantom starter although the latter has naturally a much higher stalling torque. We have therefore in hand an experimental armature for the 4"/50 motor which we anticipate will improve its B.H.P. performance and efficiency considerably. Owing to the armature being polarised with the new arrangement of windings it is necessary that a non-ferrous non-magnetic pinion be fitted. The Bosch Co. use a forged aluminium bronze pinion and we are experimenting with Peregrine(Experimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine), Japan(Experimental Engine) and 40/50 starter pinions manufactured from a forged aluminium bronze bar having similar metallurgical characteristics.
