OUR REF. IM/GR {George Ratcliffe} 23rd February 1929. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Experimental Dept., DERBY. Dear Sirs, For attention of Mr. Robotham. With reference to your favour of the 5th inst. and our letter of the 6th inst. which we have duly communicated to our Research Dept, we are requested by them to ask you whether there is any possibility of an error of observation having confused the respective consumption readings of the Solex and your own carburettor's performances for the following reasons: Firstly, the percentage difference between the respective air/fuel proportions would appear to be chemically beyond the limit variations possible without power loss, which variations, as you know, will not as a rule, stand a tolerance of more than 30% without power loss, other things being equal.
