We will see what can be done with the side steering tube for test purposes. We tried the car last night after fitting the front dampers. The load of the front dampers was 100 lbs down and 50 lbs up as near as we could measure, with no dynamic restrictions. The rear fitted up with the washers sent out and no dynamic restrictions. The steering with these conditions was perfect, there was hardly any movement of the steering wheel whilst going over ground well known for this fault. The selectiveness was good. This was with the increased lead on the cross steering tube. We do not believe it will be possible to improve upon it. The fault with this ratio of damping is hard riding from 25 MPH downwards. At medium and high speeds the rear passenger is inclined to be lifted off the seat, but when going over a ridge the rear passenger is hardly moved, the increased poundage of the dampers, damps the downward thump thus killing the effect of the rebound that generally occurs. The front riding is very steady. We should say that for medium and high speeds the downward loading is too much also for the lower speeds. We should like to try the dampers with a loading of 100lbs down and 75 lbs up for speed work and 75lbs down and 50 lbs up for general touring. The test will be confirmed during todays milage.

The mechanics joints are definatly better for retaining oil since the attention given to them. We shall be examening them tomorrow to see the condition of the joints.

We are now waiting for the starter motor bush and the Hobson Telegauge. Re the starter motor the push switch is definitly at fault. It requires a navies strength to get the contacts made with the result that the teaser winding[current] is not connected up as it should be. Why has it been altered? We did not observe any faults with the one fitted to 18 EX.
