| 87080. To R. {Sir Henry Royce} from E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} For. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.4/HP.22.4.32. Control for R.R. Expanding Carburetter. With any taper needle expanding type of carburetter it is not possible to have a range of mixture control, and at the same time for the mixture to remain uniform all the way up the scale - in other words, there is only one position of the control where the mixture does remain correct. We, therefore, propose that the control should be arranged with a normal running position which is right at one end of the movement, and a rich zone for warming up which naturally will be intermediate in position. The other end of the movement is required for the starting position where the air is shut off on the slow running carburetter. We therefore, suggest that the steering wheel mixture control be marked as on the attached blueprint, Lec.3079. This will not be a gated control but should give some indication to the driver as to how it is intended to be used. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} ENCLOSURE Nº 528 | ||
