engine which must be well over 5 feet wide and 3 feet high. With a swept volume of 3420 cu.ins. one heard that the engine developed 2400 HP. and had been type tested, but from another source the power was given as 2250 HP. and the engine was stated to be still on type test.

The engine was fitted with 2 Scintilla twin magnetos, 4 Distributors being driven from the Cam Shaft, and was provided with a 3-bladed hydromatic airscrew.

Individual steel cylinder jackets are used. From the very tortuous manifolding, one gathered the impression that a great deal of distribution trouble had been experienced, and this was borne out by a statement that Allison now have the best man on manifolds in the States. It also bore out the statement that the Allison is rather an old-fashioned, over-developed Engine.

Pratt & Whitney

In addition to the 1344 cu. in. Wasp and the 1690 cu.in Hornet 9-cylinder engines, and the 1830. cu.in.Twin Wasp, they are now building a '2180' and a '2800' cu.in engine of 14 and 18 cylinders respectively, and 5¾" bore x 6" stroke. In addition Mr.Hobbs told us that two other engines are being built of 6.1/8" bore (i.e.Hornet size), and running faster than the '2800' engine, which has a take-off speed of 2600 RPM, 1800 rated HP, 1850 actual HP. The policy of the Company appears to be rather uncertain judging by the diversity of views obtained from different members of the personnel. They have in mind an engine of between 300 and 400 HP bu regarding the actual form which this engine would take-off no-one was prepared to make a definite statement.

Wright Aeronautical Corporation

This Company is in production on the Cyclone G.2. and G.3. 9-cylinder engines, and the G.R.2600 of 6.1/8" x 6.5/16" bore and stroke, and 1200 to 1300 HP. Wrights have jst type tested the 18-cylinder Cyclone Duplex, and the show model was seen being packed for despatch to the World's Fair. This engine is 3350 cu.ins displacement, 2000 HP, 2300 RPM, take-off., 1780 RPM. for cruising. It weighs 2400 lbs., and it has a Chandler
