| X.1627 - PRODUCTION TEST OF CONDENSER FOR BATTERY IGNITION. X.2512. (1) Before encasing a condenser it shall be tested by applying to its terminals an alternating voltage of 400 (r.m.s) for a period of ten minutes through light double pole fuses and a double pole switch. The voltage must not be switched on to the condenser at this value, but at a lower value not exceeding 250, obtained by the use of a variable reactance in the primary circuit of the transformer, in conjunction with a bank of four lamps connected across the high voltage terminals in a manner previously described. After switching on at this value the applied voltage may then be increased to 400 by the use of the variable reactance, and maintained for the required ten minutes. Before switching off the condenser the voltage shall be lowered to 250. It shall now be verified (making use of 250 volts) that the condenser is capable of holding a static charge. If this is the case, the condenser, after being disconnected from the transformer by means of the double pole switch, should be capable of producing a spark, when one end of a wire, the other end of which is connected to one condenser terminal, be brought in contact with the other terminal. If it will not do this, it must be rebaked, otherwise it will give a spurious capacity reading on Test 2. (2) If the condenser stands Test 1, it shall be tested for capacity by being placed in series with an A.C. milliammeter reading up to 30 milliamperes across an alternating voltage | ||
