| contd :- -4- ZENITH FILTER TO DRG. F.77991. The filter prevents a considerable amount of sand from passing through the carburetters. It is not a 100% filter as we found a small quantity of fine sand in the bottom of the float chamber. We have not experienced any trouble from the low speed jet due to the fine sand. MAGNETO EW6. WATFORD NO.10008H. The make and break mechanism is noisy. This can be heard in the drivers seat when the engine is idling. The louvred bonnet makes these noises more pronounced. We have been satisfied with the running of the magneto, and have not found it necessary to attend to any of the parts. AUTOMATIC IGNITION CONTROL. This became sluggish after a mileage of 2000 miles. The filter was found choked with carbon sludge very similar to what is found inside the crankshaft journals. This had to be scraped off. We have not previously experienced the filter in this condition. It was again in a semi similar condition at the finish of the test. OIL RELIEF VALVE. LOP.E.76783 We had a slight variation with the oil pressure during one run and dismantled the relief valve to ascertain the cause. We found a hair - apparently off a brush- under the seat of the high pressure valve. The dismantling and examination of the relief valve unit is now quite an easy matter and quickly done without fear of any complications. OIL PUMP. LOP. E.76763. This has given no trouble - pressure has been maintained. FAN AND BELT. LOP. E.76700 We found it necessary to take one link out of the fan belt during the 9000 miles. The fan and bearings have given no trouble. FLYWHEEL & CLUTCH. LOP. G.76314. N.sch.2463/7/88. Light type serrated drive, & larger clutch stop. We have had no trouble with the clutch. It has been smooth in picking up and no slipping has occurred. The clutch stop is generally satisfactory. We had two occasions when for some reason, not definitely found, the clutch would not stop. We believe the cause was a temporary cross binding in the serrated drive. It righted itself after declutching several times. A slight wear has taken place on the serrated drive which can be heard when the car is overrunning the engine. contd .. | ||
