| R.R. 235a (500 T) (S.D. 408. 26-4-17.) Bm. 2/156/13. X.3732 To Ds. from Bn. {W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} Copy to Ck. {Mr Clark} Bn {W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} 10/W41219. X.3732 RE SPLIT TYPE PISTONS. With reference to EH3/LG1.12.19, I quite agree with this proposal. We could very quickly and easily carry out the first part, which is to cut away the thickened part inside the piston on the non-pressure side leaving only enough to form the lowest rung groove. This will enable the split to be cut in the oil relief annulus, as you suggest. The second operation will perhaps take a little longer to prove, but should be put in hand. Presumably you would like to have a thickness which tapers toward the verticle split to give a better distribution of stress. Will you please consult with Mr. Hives. Bn. {W.O.
