| x7941. To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. Hotel de France, Chateauroux(French test region), FRANCE. 2nd May 1932. 19-Ex. We have received your wire :- WAITING REPORTS FROM YOU OF TEST STARTED. EIGHT DAYS AGO NO REPORTS RECEIVED. WIRE EXPLANATION. HIVES. and replied by :- REPORT IN POST STOP COMPLETED 1834 MILES STOP DRIVING ALL DAY AND WORKING UNTIL MIDNIGHT LEFT NO TIME FOR REPORTS. HANCOCK. We have previously sent you two reports on the behaviour and faults of the car during the runs, probably the post has been delayed causing you not to receive them. We did not send you the daily report until we had had a chance of getting the average petrol and oil consumptions. Our time has been fully occupied as stated in our telegram, and both Roberts and myself have been working until 12 o'clock midnight after driving all day, and there has not been much time for anything else. As stated in our report of yesterday, 1st May, we have held the car up to attend to the low inertia spring drive. We found that the poundage of this had dropped [strikethrough: taxii] from 17 - 18 lbs. We have fitted the Ferodo washers and brought the poundage up to 18 lbs. We have also fitted half of the Luvax bijur system, and checked up the shock dampers etc. We have examined the synchromesh gearbox but cannot do anything further without dismantling it. We are fitting [strikethrough: a] a still stronger spring on the plunger of the selector shaft so as not to delay the running of the car. We should be pleased if you could supply us with a drawing of the synchromesh, so that in the event of us having to take it down, we should have something to work upon. The car will resume its mileage in the morning the 3rd inst. GWHancock. G.W.H. | ||
