In view of the short duration of our B.60 Valve openings and the large valves we employ, the stresses on the camshaft are high. Furthermore, it appears from the road tests so far carried out that we may have to shorten the duration still more. I should be glad if you would get Spooner to go into the question of hairpin valve springs, as these are being employed with considerable success by several motor manufacturers. Their main advantage is that the spring has little or no inertia. At high speeds the inertia of the valve springs materially reduces the bouncing speed. I should be glad if you would contact Whyman regarding the tests he has done on idling on the B.60, and let me have your recommendations. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
