Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} reported a conversation he had with Mr.Breedon of Lucas by 'phone on the 11th Inst. Mr.Breedon was reporting to Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} concerning matters he had that morning discussed with our Mr.Thacker regarding equipment for Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine)) II and Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} took advantage of the opportunity to inform Mr.Breedon that the Works Committee did not approve of the price of £19.10.0 quoted by his firm for the 1" longer dynamo and the charge of £7.15.0 quoted for converting existing dynamos to the 1" longer pattern, adding that the Committee were of the opinion that the price of the dynamo ought to be reduced to £17 and the charge to £5. Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} further remarked that the Minutes of the Committee conveying this recommendation had been sent to R. {Sir Henry Royce} and CJ. and in the event of their approving it would be his (Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} ) duty to inform Lucas that Rolls-Royce could not see their way to pay more than £17 and £5 respectively. Mr.Breedon remarked that in quoting £19.10.0 for the 1" longer dynamo his firm were already making a serious sacrifice. Further that we, as practical men, must know that the conversion of an existing dynamo to the 1" longer pattern could not be carried out for anything like the quoted figure of £7.15.0, and further added that his firm (Lucas) were very anxious to meet our wishes in every way, but there was a limit to the sacrifices they were prepared to make to retain the business of Rolls-Royce, and if we insisted that these further sacrifices should be made by them they would have to consider whether it was worth while retaining the business of Rolls-Royce on such terms. | ||
