The car resumed running this morning and had covered 50 miles when N° 5 Connecting Rod Bearing collapsed. Water temperature was 80°c Oil temp. 120°c. We have no definate proof why this rod failed. My own view is that the cap was tightened up more than it had been previously which would distort the bearing and probably decrease the clearance. It partially seized, then the metal broke up. I have no other explaination, to give as the oil test showed everything to be alright and all parts fitted up correctly.

We have despatched to you the broken up bearing.
Enclosed are confirmations of the telegrams sent to you to-day.
