To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re 10,000 miles' test - Sg {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} 20/E19.4.29

Referring to Report dated the 10th, you will see it says "Steering very good during first part of mileage, afterwards very unselective and inclined to wobble."

This seems very curious and I should be glad to know whether you can offer any explanation of why the steering should be good for the first part of the day and later unsatisfactory.

Re Slipper Drive - you will see the report says that the period was reduced after attention to the slipper drive, and as so much engine sweetness depends on the slipper drive, I should be glad to know whether it is anticipated that very much attention is going to be required to this as standard toassure conditions keeping correct.

The report also says that the spare starter motor fitted occasionally jams. I presume this refers to the new parts recently sent over and I should be glad to know whether they are of the very latest type. If so it is rather distressing.

By the way, when we have to send new parts over on an urgent job of this sort, where time is of importance, do we sent them by messenger or by air mail? I am wondering whether we lost very much time on this particular breakdown. Perhaps you will let me know.
