| 261? Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 2/R. 28th December, 1938. Major Hignett, East Langton Grange, MARKET HARBOROUGH. Dear Major Hignett, I examined your engine while it was stripped in the Repair Dept., and there was an abnormal amount of sludge in it, which may have been partly responsible for the bearing failure. I pointed out to you that as blow-by increases, the sludge formation is also liable to increase, and as the sludge collects in the crankshaft it can only be removed by stripping the engine. Nevertheless, it is not a normal thing to have a bearing failure from such a cause. I am sorry that you got let down in the car, and hope you will have no further trouble. Yours sincerely, | ||
