| X7941 To HS {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. Hotel de France, Chateauroux(French test region), FRANCE. 21.4.34. 28-Ex. We have received your memo ns {Norman Scott} /Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 16/KW.19.4.34. Re. Radiator. I don't think it would be our best policy to reduce the radiator matrix. We get an air temp. of 35°C. and no tests have been carried out climbing with reduced speeds. We are, for the moment, in a position we have strived for for years. I think it would be the best policy to ventilate the bonnet with cool air as we have always on the Phantom cursed the heat under the scuttle. We don't get many perfect units on the car, so let us keep one as a memento. Steering. We have reduced the load of the friction in the column to 1.25 lbs. to turn the steering wheel, from 3.25 lbs. We have not altered the pivots as we could not obtain any springs, and Day's scheme was out of date in 1926, when he proposed using mixing different springs. We have obtained the results by alteration to the side steering tube springs as given you, and the friction in the column. We expect your last paragraph will now be deleted as Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has decided to bring the car back. We were of course in the thick of tests, but it cannot be avoided. G.W.H. | ||
