re:- COACHWORK.

We are extremely anxious that as far as the technical side of coachwork is concerned every change that we may make shall be progressive and not retrogressive.

As a means of ensuring the same conditions on the chassis we have found the Standardisation Sheet to be the most suitable to this end.

The only coachwork which we can standardise is, of course, our standardised coachwork. We make the proposal that before a further batch of any of our standardised bodies is ordered the whole of the changes suggested by all the people concerned should be reviewed. Finally, the Technical Coachwork Department should draw up a Standardisation Sheet and report on the features which it is proposed to adopt and which are different from those of the previous batch. The report attached to the Standardisation Sheet would give a brief description of the new items or details, the reason for their adoption and the actual practical experience which we have had of these features to justify our recommending them. All parties interested or concerned in coachwork would be asked to sign this Sheet, including the Coachbuilder himself. On completion of the Standardisation Sheet no structural changes would be made to the coachwork of that batch of cars without a subsequent over-riding Standardisation Sheet.

We suggest that this is a matter which could be discussed with advantage at our next Derby Conference, which is due to take place about the last week in this month.
