| S1/18.1.31. JAPAN(Experimental Engine) III. Position of Crankcase and Cylinder information. CRANKCASE (Main portion.) Lec.2853 shews main cross section and particulars of crankshaft main bearings. Cylinder centres and length and position of all main bearing housings same as standard China(Experimental Engine). Lec.2853 also gives position of cylinder studs, tappet guides, and particulars of ignition tower housing. Longitudinal centre of this housing same as China(Experimental Engine). Work to Lec.2838 for longitudinal section through camshaft and tappet housings, but fix camshaft centre as in Lec.2853. Lec.2859 (print herewith) shews flywheel housing and rear arm. ---------------- All the above information is regarded as settled except Lec.2859, concerning which we are expecting to hear from R. {Sir Henry Royce} Further information will be required by Derby as follows, to complete the Crankcase main portion :- Wheelcase and gears. Water Pump Drive. Oil Pump Drive. Front Suspension. Dynamo Drive and Mounting. Magneto Mounting. Rear End oil retaining cover. Oil relief unit and main bearing pipe. Oil Filler. Controls. Torque reaction dampers. CRANKCASE (Lower half.) Nothing available yet. This requires redrawing for the larger stroke. CYLINDER HEAD AND BLOCK. Lec.2853 shews main cross sections of head and block, particulars of gasket, water and stud holes. Cylinder centres same as China(Experimental Engine). | ||
