We attach for your information copy of report we have received from Hy. {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} dated 18th. inst. re. the above car.
Referring to the points raised by Hy. {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} we have replied as follows.
Whilst the present "lock-out" exists, 6-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-11 should be kept running in France even when it has completed 10,000 miles. We have already 5-Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine))-11 in pieces awaiting new parts before it can be built up.
We have also sent on to Hy. {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} the instruction from CJ. that the cars should be tried in the hilly districts.
As regards the fan belts. The belt used on the Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine)) is the same belt as we used on the 40/50 cars. We agree that the average experience with the belts on the Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine)), so far, have given considerably more trouble than they have on the 40/50 cars. We think this might possibly be due to the increased belt speed on the Goshawk(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine)). We can confirm this on the rig.
