| ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. X634 Oy1-E-111326 November 13th, 1926. Mr. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby, England. Dear Mr. Hives: Re Crankshaft Vibrations Many thanks for the splendid reports of September last on torsional vibrations. Will you run some tests with Mobiloil A in the engine and tell us whether you do not find that a bench friction-setting of 170-180 lbs. ins. on the slipper is best for eliminating vibrations when this oil is used? We have found this to be so on both the Silver Ghost(1907 40/50 historic RAC 15,000 miles trial) and Phantom engines, (but only by "trial and error" methods on the road). Yours very truly, Maurice Olley MO/E | ||
